AFTER ARY SCHEFFER (1795-1858)

'La Famille du marin'

1860

Albumen print? | RCIN 2865012

Photograph of a work by Ary Scheffer, a 1826 version of which is now in the collection of Musée de la Vie romantique, Paris (Ivn. no. 91.2). The image depicts a barefoot sailor's wife in hat and cloak. She sits on a rock and faces to the right. A child and a baby are held in her arms.

Scheffer (and his studio) continued throughout his life to produce new works of old compositions on demand. His paintings were also widely reproduced as etchings.
