'James Boyd Hay, 14th Earl of Erroll'; James Hay, 15th Earl of Erroll

Photograph of a full-length portrait of James Hay, 15th Earl of Erroll (1726-78) standing on a terrace with a balustrade behind and landscape beyond. He is depicted in his peerage robes worn at the coronation of King George III in 1760, two years before the Earl sat for the portrait. He holds the baton of the Lord High Constable of Scotland in his right hand, while his left hand rests on a table beside him.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was attributed to Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723–1792) and was in the collection of The Earl of Erroll, Slains Castle, Aberdeenshire.

Please note that the original caption mistakenly refers to the sitter as the 14th Earl of Erroll.
