The Bishop is seated in an armchair facing three-quarters to the right and slightly turning his head to look at the viewer. He wears the mantle of the Order of the Garter with starched bands at his neck. A badge is hanging on a chain at his chest, while a coat of arms is visible beside him, to the right.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of the James Burnett, Bart. of Leys, Crathes Castle, Kincardineshire. According to the album's table of contents, the work was created by Sir Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723).
