AFTER? CHARLES JARVIS (C. 1675-1739)

'The Hon. James Campbell'

c. 1859

Albumen print? | RCIN 2866341

Photograph of a full-length portrait of John Campbell, 3rd Earl of Breadalbane and Holland (1696-1782) as a child. The sitter is depicted in highland costume, standing against a Scottish landscape. This is an early depiction of Highland dress.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of The Marquis of Breadalbane, Holyrood Palace. It is believed that the work was later attributed to Charles Jevras (c.1675-1739) and is now in the collection of the National Scottish Galleries (PG 2934).
