Photograph of a painted enamelled roundel (rondache) created in Limoges in the mid-sixteen century and now in the collection of the Louvre, Paris (MR 2520). Attributed to Pierre Pénicaud (c. 1515-90), the domed dish depicts a battle scene with horses and soldiers being trampled underfoot. In the foreground, a soldier on horseback holds up a billowing standard as he faces to the conflict raging behind.
