c. 1855Albumen print? | RCIN 2864535
Photograph of a painted enamelled roundel (rondache) created in Limoges in the mid-sixteen century and now in the collection of the Louvre, Paris (MR 2521). Attributed to Pierre Pénicaud (c. 1515-90), the domed dish depicts a battle scene with semi-draped soldiers on horseback, some trampled on the ground. Billowing standards and long spears can be seen in the background.
