Photograph of a cartoon by Paul Delaroche, created around 1837 as preparatory for the right side of his monumental mural in the Hemicycle of the École des Beaux Arts, Paris. The work depicts a crowd of more that thirty male painters, sculptors and architects of various ages in conversation. Including Inigo jones, Holbein and Leonardo da Vinci, the artists are assembled in groups around an elevation of two steps.
