Photograph of a cartoon by Paul Delaroche, created around 1837 as preparatory for the left side of his monumental mural in the Hemicycle of the École des Beaux Arts, Paris. The work depicts a crowd of more that thirty male painters, sculptors and architects of various ages in conversation. Including Donatello, Velazquez and Rembrandt, the artists are assembled in groups around an elevation of two steps.
