Photograph of a half length self-portrait by Ary Scheffer at the age of 43. The painting was created in 1838 and is now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (Inv. no. SK-A-4748). The work depicts the painter facing a quarter to the right, his gaze turned towards the viewer. He holds an open book in his right hand.
