Glass plate negative of a photograph showing a full length double portrait of Victoria, Princess Royal, later Empress of Germany (1840-1901) and Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse by Rhine (1843-78). The young princesses face towards the camera, posing arm in arm. The Princess Royal stands and Princess Alice sits beside her. They wear long skirts with fitted jackets, and hats.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900015.
