The Red (King's) Room, Windsor Castle

1868-95

RCIN 2084177

Glass plate negative of the white marble chimneypiece in the Red (King's) Room, Windsor Castle (F207). On the mantel stands a mantel clock surrounded by female figures by Vulliamy (RCIN 30023), in a glass cover, flanked by ornaments in glass covers and a pair of French ormolu candelabra with flower branches (RCIN 36128.1-2). A pair of coal boxes or wine-coolers stand either side of the fireplace. On either sides of the overmantel mirror are two frames containing miniatures. To right of the fireplace recess is part of the striking striped wall pattern of alternating medallions and leafy bands (in gold on an orange or geranium-red ground), within gilt mouldings. The carpet is a floral design, different to that displayed in 2100609.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2100628.
