Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

WILLIAM BAMBRIDGE (1819-79)

The Jäger, John Macdonald (d. 1860)

c.1858

RCIN 2083782

Glass plate negative of a three-quarter length portrait of the Jäger, John Macdonald (d. 1860) seated on a wooden bench. The sitter faces three-quarters to the right and looks ahead, away from the camera. He wears a dark coloured coat and hat. His legs are crossed.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2906747.
