Glass plate negative of a full length double portrait of sisters Caroline MacDonald, seated, and Helena MacDonald, standing on the left. The sisters both face the viewer. Helena holds her sister's hand.
The girl's father, Jager John MacDonald (d. 1860), had originally been employed at Balmoral but by 1848 was working at Windsor in charge of the kennels.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2917904.
