Princess Helena (1846-1923) and Princess Louise, later Duchess of Argyll (1848-1939)

Jun 1860

RCIN 2082516

Glass plate negative of a full length double portrait of Princess Louise and Princess Helena. Princess Helena, on the right, is depicted standing and facing three-quarters to the left. She clasps her hands together in front of her waist and holds a flower. Princess Louise is seated, facing three-quarters to the right. She looks ahead, away from the camera. She holds a book open on her lap with both hands. The sisters are dressed in a similar fashion.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900347.
