Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78), standing, facing right, her face captured in profile. She holds a book with both hands in front of her chest. There is an urn in front of her, on top of a small wall. Photograph taken at Osborne.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900202.
