Prince Consort's Dressing Room, Buckingham Palace

c. 1870-73

RCIN 2084378

Glass plate negative featuring two almost identical views of the Prince Consort's Dressing Room at Buckingham Palace. The room has a domed ceiling, simply decorated. Among the artworks on the wall, four large paintings are discernible. To the right is a painting of Prince Albert's favourite dog, Eos by Landseer (RCIN 403219), a portrait of a child, a portrait of Prince Arthur as a baby with a ball by Winterhalter (RCIN 404489) and a landscape. Below the latter is a series of miniatures in square frames hung in a grid. An assortment of furniture occupy the room, including tables, cabinets, chairs and a sofa. A dressing table with washing equipment can be seen in the distance.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2103830.
