Glass plate negatives
Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods
Ludwig IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine (1837-92)
1859-62RCIN 2082571
Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Louis of Hesse standing, facing halfway towards the right and looking directly at the camera. He holds a hat and pair of gloves in his left hand and a cane in his right hand.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection, however a variant from the same sitting is represented by RCIN 2149064.
