Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

L HAASE & CO (ACTIVE C. 1860-1890S)

Prince Wilhelm, later Wilhelm II (1859-1941)

Dec 1860

RCIN 2082515

Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Prince Wilhelm seated on the ground, facing towards the camera. He looks to the right. He is seated beside a toy horse on wheel.

The negative has been masked out, indicating the photographer's intention to conceal the original background and provide a light, uniform surface instead.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900403.
