Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of John Brown, personal servant to Queen Victoria. Brown is seated on a chair, facing three-quarters to the left and looking ahead. His face is captured in profile. He wears dark highland uniform and silver-edged sporran. He holds his cap in one hand.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A hand-coloured print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2914390.
