Glass plate negative of a three-quarters length portrait of John Brown, standing next to a chair in full Highland dress and ceremonial arms. He was a Scottish personal servant and favourite of Queen Victoria for many years until his death in 1883.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2931141.
