Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

Chico and Goliah, 'Cuba' dogs

Glass plate negative of Chico and Goliah, described as Queen Victoria's 'Cuba dogs'. The two small dogs are lying on a high backed wooden chair at the Royal Kennels, Windsor. The chair is surrounded by grass and there is a fence behind.
Goliah was given to the Queen by Lady Ellesmore. They are probably the breed which would be described today as Bichon Havanese.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative (RCIN 2105063) can be found in an album belonging to Queen Victoria.
