Thomas Gisborne states that his daughter Mrs Evans has been making enquires through a friend about Mrs Kempthorne. He also states that Mr Kempthorne had been a friend to Bishop Ryder and that Mrs Kempthorne had been a governess to the Bishop's family before her marriage.
