Letter from Charles Ruland to Sir Charles Beaumont Phipps acknowledging the offer of a £100 retirement allowance and asking that he pass on his sincere gratitude to Queen Victoria. He also writes that he feels it is best if he leaves the recruitment of a successor to Phipps and thanks him for his 'kind and friendly manner'.
