According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs. There is no complete copy of this particular basamento fresco, as it was partially destroyed early in the sixteenth century when a door was cut into the wall. The subject of the fresco was not recognised by Ruland in his catalogue of the Raphael Collection (1876).
