Sheet of studies for 'Philosophy'
c.1860-76Carbon print | RCIN 852577
A photograph of a drawing now in the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.514E). The drawing, which Ruland (1876) attributed to Raphael, is now generally thought to be a copy after a lost study by Raphael related to 'Philosophy', the bas-relief grisaille painted under the niched statue of Minerva on the right side of 'The School of Athens'.
Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1860-76)
