MARCANTONIO RAIMONDI (C. 1480-1534)

St Paul Preaching at Athens

c.1517-1520

Engraving | 26.5 x 35.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853194

An engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi depicting 'St Paul Preaching at Athens'.

This composition probably derives from the cartoon executed by Raphael for the tapestry of 'St Paul Preaching at Athens', which is one from a series of ten illustrating episodes from the lives of St Peter and St Paul commissioned from Raphael by Pope Leo X for the Sistine Chapel.
