The Virgin and Child
c.1799-1847Engraving with etching | 66.9 x 48.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851176
Ruland (1876) attributed the painting to Bernard van Orley. The inscription lettered on a print by Noel François Bertand reproducing the Virgin alone indicates that the painting was then in the collection of Mr Legras, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. See RCIN 851177.
The print shows the full-length Virgin seating on the ground and holding some flowers in her left hand and holding the naked Christ Child with her right; in a landscape with sluice gates beyond them.
