The Virgin holding the Hand of the Christ Child

A print probably reproducing a deatil from a larger composition attributed on plate to Raphael and described as being then in the collection of Mr Legras at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. According to the lettering below the image, the painting was known as 'La Vierge a la Pensée'. Lettered with production details. The complete composition - which Ruland (1876) attributed to Bernard van Orley - is known through a print by Desnoyers. See RCIN 851176.

The print shows the seated Virgin, three-quarter to the left, holding some flowers with her left hand anf the hand of a Child (the Infant Jesus) with her right.
