Holy Family with the Infant Baptist [‘The Madonna delle Rovine’]

A print reproducing a composition traditionally known as 'The Madonna delle Rovine’, known in several versions. This print is after the version believed to be the original one, formerly in the collection of William Banks (1786-1855) and now at Kingston Lacy, Dorset (inv. no.KLA.P.42); reproduced in reverse. The painting is generally attributed to the workshop of Raphael (possibly Gianfrancesco Penni), datable c.1517-18. The lettering indicates that the painting was in the Escorial in Spain, at the time this print was published. Published in ‘Recueil Crozat’, Paris 1729, pl.34.
