Photograph of Ismail Pacha (1813-1865) with a chibouque. He is sitting on a wicker basket turned on its side with his legs crossed, and is holding the chibouque in his right hand. Two Turkish soldiers stand to the right and there is open land behind. Ismail Pacha was a Hungarian soldier whose real name was György Kmety. After the Hungarian Revolution he joined the Ottoman army and played a significant role in the Crimean War. A chibouque is a long stemmed Turkish tobacco pipe.
