The original daguerreotype exists in the Royal Collection, RCIN 2932488.

The photograph documents one of two the daguerreotypes of Prince Albert taken in 1842, the earliest photographic portraits taken of a member of the British royal family. The other daguerreotype was similarly documented, see RCIN 2931356.a.
