Photograph of four of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's children (from left to right): Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901), later Empress Friedrich; Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910); Princess Alice (1843-78), later Duchess of Hesse, and Prince Alfred (1844-1900), later Duke of Saxe Coburg and Gotha. The children are photographed seated on a bench, except the Princess Royal who stands, holding a net in her right hand and a bag in her left hand. Photograph taken on the lower terrace, Osborne.
