Photograph of Victoria, Princess Royal, later German Empress Frederick II (1840-1901) lying on the floor with her brother, Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942). Princess Alice supports her upper body with a cushion, placing her right arm on top of the cushion. She poses with her left hand raised to her head and gazes upwards. She holds a sickle in her right hand and wears a garland of flowers on her head. On the far left lies Prince Arthur. He places one arm beside his sister, and the other arm on top of his body. His eyes are closed.

Princess Victoria and Prince Arthur are dressed as the personification of Summer for a performance of the 'Tableaux of the Seasons'.
