24 - 24 May 1859Albumen print | 14.6 x 19.8 cm (image) | RCIN 2906268
Photograph showing a small side table holding gifts that were presented to Queen Victoria on her 40th birthday at Osborne, consisting of two vases, jewelry and framed pictures.
Queen Victoria's 40th birthday was spent at Osborne in the Isle of Wight. Her two eldest sons were away but the remaining children had all done 'pieces of work, or drawings' for the Queen, and, meeting her with nosegays, they escorted their mother to her present table 'full of charming gifts.' Bambridge later photographed the Royal Family on the Terrace.
