Photograph of a full length portrait of Prince Alfred, later Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1844-1900). Prince Alfred is seated on a barrel draped with leopard skin. He faces the camera front on, and poses with his left hand on his knee and his right hand holding up a goblet. He wears light colour leggings and shirt, a leopard skin toga and Roman-inspired sandals. A log and a bundle of kindling lie on the left of the photograph.

Prince Alfred is dressed as Bacchus, representing the season of Autumn, for a performance of 'Tableaux of the Seasons'.
