Photograph of a painting by Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-73) of Prince Alfred, later Duke of Saxe Coburg and Gotha (1844-1900) and Princess Helena, later Princess Christian of Schleswig Holstein (1846-1923) posed in an outside setting.  Prince Alfred is seated on a stone facing the viewer. He holds a feather above his head with his right hand. He wears highland dress, including a kilt and argyle pattern socks. Princess Helena stands beside him, captured in almost left side profile, and reaches towards the feather with her right hand. There are mountains and trees in background.

The painting (RCIN 403053) is held by the Royal Collection and was painted c.1848-9.
