A picturesque study of the ruins of Fountains Abbey, seen from the south east side. A photograph with the title 'Fountains Abbey, from the south east' was exhibited at the Photographic Society Exhibition in early 1855. It is probably the same image seen here. It would have been acquired by Prince Albert shortly after the exhibition.
