Albums compiled by Prince Albert, reflecting his beliefs surrounding photography

GEORGE WASHINGTON WILSON (1823-93)

Balmoral from seat on the footpath, Craig Gowan

Aug 1857

Albumen print | 18.2 x 23.6 cm (image) | RCIN 2906245

Photograph of the recently completed new Balmoral Castle in the middle distance with trees in the foreground and hills in the background.

In September 1857 Wilson was producing work that was of the larger Imperial size compared to those photographs that he had taken the previous year. There is a possibility that Wilson was influenced by Roger Fenton who was producing large scale views of the same region in 1856.
