Photograph of Ballater in Aberdeenshire with the river Dee in the foreground over which is a metal bridge. A group of dwellings stand on the banks of the river in the middle ground with hills in the background. Re-printed in albumen by William Bambridge in 1869.
The old wooden bridge in Ballater that dated from c. 1834 and that appears in this photograph was replaced with a stone bridge, designed by the engineers Jenkins and Marr. It was opened in 1885 by Queen Victoria.
