Photograph of Princess Alice (1843-78), later the Grand Duchess of Hesse, Princess Victoria (1840-1901) later Empress Friedrich of Germany, Madame Rollande (fl. 1854), Miss Hildyard (fl. 1854), Sir Matthew Digby Wyatt (1820-77) and Sir Joseph Paxton (1803-65) inside the Crystal Palace following its removal from Hyde Park to Sydenham in 1854. The photograph was taken in the Egyptian Court and in the background are a variety of replicas ancient Egyptian sculptures.
