'An Ivory Card Rack'

Photograph of a Chinese ivory rack with the central panel containing five detailed Chinese scenes featuring figures, boats and trees. The central panel is surrounded by an ornately carved outer section with lattice work, birds, figures and trees. The rack was part of an exhibition of works of art at Marlborough House in 1854 (see RCIN 2800221 for another print of this photograph).
An invoice dated 14 July 1854 for 11 photographs totalling £1 13s was submitted to Dr Ernst Becker and payment was received by Bedford on 12 October 1854 (Royal Archives PPTO/PP/QV/PP2/4840).
