Winchester Cathedral : the choir & altar screen

Photograph of the interior of Winchester Cathedral with a view towards the east and the altar screen. In the foreground are the choir stalls and in the background, the great altar with a stained glass window beyond. The great screen is constructed from stone and dates to the 15th century. The niches that once held individual statues are now empty, the figures having been destroyed in the 16th century during the Reformation. This photograph is part of the series that Wilson produced during 1861 to 1863 that included the Cathedrals of York, Exeter, Peterborough and Durham.
