Westminster Abbey was consecrated in 1065 and was dedicated to St Peter, the patron saint of fishermen, following a vision that a fisherman by the name of Aldrich had on the Thames near to where the abbey was subsequently built. Poet's Corner occupies the south transept of the abbey.
