Technological improvements enabled Prince Albert to collect photographs of places that were significant to him

ATTRIBUTED TO FREDERICK HOLLAND MARES

'View of Killarney, Ireland'

c.1880 after an original of c.1860

Carbon print | 7.4 x 7.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2320095

Photograph of a view of Killarney, Ireland. There is a body of water in the foreground that feeds into a lake that extends into the background. In the background is a hill surrounded by rocky outcrops.

A carbon copy is adhered on top of the original albumen print. Carbon prints are more stable compared to albumen prints, the latter prone to fading. Carbon copies were therefore created for posterity.
