Technological improvements enabled Prince Albert to collect photographs of places that were significant to him

ATTRIBUTED TO FREDERICK HOLLAND MARES

'On Dinis Island, Killarney'

c.1880 after an original of c.1860

Carbon print | 7.5 x 7.1 cm (image) | RCIN 2320107

Photograph of a view of a path surrounded by trees. At the end of the path is a gate and fence. Photograph taken on Dinis Island, Killarney.

A carbon copy is adhered on top of the original albumen print. Carbon prints are more stable compared to albumen prints, the latter prone to fading. Carbon copies were therefore created for posterity.
