A photograph of a drawing by Raphael (c.1502-03) formerly in the Wicar Museum, Lille, and now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no.442). The studies are preparatory for the figure of the Virgin in the so-called 'Norton Simon Madonna', a painting by Raphael now in the Norton Simon Museum of Art, Pasadena (inv. no.M.1972.2.P).
The photograph shows the seated figure of a model, holding an open book in his left hand and looking down to the left; another study of the same hand holding the book at bottom centre.
