'Princess Maria Clementina Sobieski'
c. 1859Albumen print? | RCIN 2866344
Photograph of a three-quarter-length portrait of Queen Maria Clementina Sobieska (1702-35) as a princess. The young female figure is depicted standing against drapery, facing slightly to the left and gazing at the viewer. She wears a brocade dress with a long mantle. Her hair is dressed in ringlets and adorned by two jewelled headpieces. She holds a fan in her left hand. Her right hand rests on a table laid with jewellery in the foreground.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of William Pollard-Urquhart (1815-71), Esq., Craigston Castle, Aberdeenshire. It is highly likely Francesco Trevisani's (1656-1746) work, now at the National Galleries of Scotland (PG 886).
