1857Albumen print | 22.5 x 15.6 cm (image) | RCIN 2081514
Photograph of a painting depicting two men standing beside a large easel in an interior setting. The man on the right holds a painting palette.
At the time of the photograph, the men depicted in the painting were identified as the artist Diego Velázquez (1599-1660) and Philip II of Spain (1527-98). Based on the life dates of the artist and King, and the appearance of the man on the left, it is more likely the identity of the man on the left is Philip IV (1605-65). The painting was attributed to A. J. Herbert.
