Photograph of an painted enamel ewer stand by Pierre Reymond (1513-84), created in 1569 and now in the collection of the Louvre, Paris (N 1280). The platter's main design was based on Bernard Salomon's (1505-61) engravings of the Biblical account of the departure of the Israelites from Egypt. Painted in grisaille on dark background, the scene appears around a circular open aperture in the centre of the basin. The outer rim is decorated with a frieze of satyrs, fauns and imaginary beasts pulling chariots.
