Photograph of a marble recumbent effigy by Ary Scheffer (1795-1858). The full-length statue depicts the artist's mother lying with both hands extended in front of her, her palms facing upwards.

Ary Scheffer (and his studio) continued throughout his life to produce new works of old compositions on demand. His paintings were also widely reproduced as etchings.
